Meet the Bay Breeze Yacht Sales Team
Jay has been in the marine industry over twenty years. His boating activities go back to his great grandparents cottage on Houghton Lake, Michigan where he rowed his aluminum pram around until he was given the nod to use the outboard boat and motor. Having lived in Traverse City since 1979, Jay was exposed to the numerous bodies of water in northern Michigan and the Great Lakes and his passion developed and grew roots. Since those years his participation in sailing grew and he has cruised and raced in may areas of the country and he actively races his Melges 24 and Laser locally. A past Commodore of the Grand Traverse Yacht Club, Jay also served five years on the Traverse Area Community Sailing board of directors and stays actively involved in the areas boating community.
The running joke in my family is “Mike’s first car was a boat”. That should tell you a lot. My first boat was a 16 foot Hobie Cat that I bought when I was fourteen. I have not been without a vessel since. My experience and ownership ranges from sailing to power, including high horsepower offshore boats, trawlers and recreational cruisers. I average over 100 days a year on the water. I am a 100 ton Master Captain, search and rescue scuba diver and private pilot. All of these certifications require extensive knowledge, training, testing and experience to attain. I can assure you, while you are onboard, safety is always the primary concern. I am a “Zero Loss” Captain. I have never damaged or injured personnel, property or ship. A record I am quite proud to maintain. More information is available at SavvySkipper.com and Ambitiouscharters.com.
On a personal note, I am 52 years young and healthy of mind, body and spirit. I have lived in Traverse City for almost ten years. I have extensive boating and diving experience on the Great Lakes. I well know the waters of Lake Michigan and her inlets, as well as the Straits of Mackinac and eastern Upper Peninsula, I spent twelve years navigating the Western basin of Lake Erie, twelve years on Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron and the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers, I have additional experience on Lake Superior, as well as southern Atlantic and Gulf waters. I’m quite comfortable and confident on all waters.
Dave’s interest in boats came at a young age from time spent with family and friends on the Great Lakes fishing and cruising. He went to college for automotive engineering and quickly found that boats were much more to his liking than cars!! Dave moved to northwest Michigan from the Detroit area in 2000. He took a job at a local boat dealership where he was factory trained and certified in many brands. Dave currently lives in Benzonia, MI and enjoys fishing, hunting, boating, and just about anything outdoors as well as time together with friends and loved ones. Dave is the proprietor of Hayne Marine Electric and certified in all major brands of marine electronics for service and installation.
